Dearly Beloved
These pieces are just three of many portraits of people that have died by being victims of police brutality. In the middle, you see Michelle Cusseaux, a transgender woman. In 2015, August 14 Michelle Cusseaux was killed at close range by a Phoenix police officer who had been called to take the 50-year-old woman to a mental health facility. With no mercy he killed her.
This portrait is just one part of a bigger project, "Dearly Beloved: we are our own record keepers", where victims ranging from 7 years to 106 are commemorated. Thus, strengthening and raising awareness about Police Brutality. These paintings are currently still exhibited in UMassDartmouth.
